Malaysia's 8th Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition ( LIMA) opened on Dec. 6th. At the exhibition, Malaysia's purchase of China 's KS-1 intermediate-range missile drew a lot of attention.
This grand exhibition sponsored by Malaysia's military force aims at providing the country with a platform for weapon purchase. Tan Sri Subhan Jasmon, secretary general of Malaysia's Ministry of Defence and chairperson of the LIMA organizing committee, indicated that Malaysia will sign as many as 41 memorandums of understanding, cooperation agreements and purchase agreements with other countries participating in the exhibition and some of these agreements are to purchase military equipment for the military force of the Malaysia government.
LIMA was initiated in 1991 and covers aerospace and martime exhibitions. 390 enterprises from 19 countries participated in this year's aerospace exhibition with 68 battleplanes, civil aircrafts, trainer aircrafts and helicopters of various types, while 164 enterprises from 18 countries took part in the maritime expo with 54 ships of different models.
A senior officer of Malaysia's armed forces said that Malaysia's military troops have in principle agreed to purchase KS-1 intermediate-range missile produced by China Precision Machinery Import/Export Corp. Both parties have signed a memorandum of understanding beforehand and such purchase will be listed into Malaysia's ninth development plan.
It was learned that this LIMA will be held from Dec. 6th to the 11th and will not open to the public until the last two days. |
